General Instructions & What to Expect

VIP treatment begins before you ever enter our surgical center. You will be contacted by one of our VIP staff members so that we can process your pre-admission and pre-registration. We are pleased that you and your physician have chosen VIP Surgical Center for your surgical care. We want to make your experience as pleasant and comfortable as possible, providing you, your family and your physician with VIP treatment at each turn.

Guidelines for Before your Surgery:

  • Your physician will review the details of your surgery, how the surgery will be performed and details about VIP Surgical Center.
  • Preoperative testing/imaging may be ordered by your physician before your surgery.
  • A VIP nurse will contact you prior to your procedure to gather important information about your medical history including what medications you are taking.Pre-operative instructions will be given to you at this time including your expected time of arrival.
  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery or 8 hours before your surgery. This includes water, gum, candy, cough drops, coffee and/or mints.
  • Do not drink alcohol, smoke or take medications containing aspirin for 24 hours before your surgery (unless directed to do so by your physician).
  • You will be advised by your physician or pre-assessment nurse which medications you can take before surgery with a small sip of water.
  • A VIP representative will contact you to obtain and/or confirm necessary personal and insurance information and to review costs associated with your surgery.

Failure to follow guidelines could compromise your surgery and could result in surgery being postponed or cancelled by your surgeon or anesthesiologist

Guidelines for Post-Surgery:

  • Do not drive a vehicle nor make important decisions nor smoke or drink alcohol for 24 hours after your surgery.
  • Be sure to follow all post-surgery guidelines given to you by the nurse or you physician.
  • A VIP nurse will call you the day after surgery to make sure you are recovering comfortably and to review any concerns or questions you may have about the surgery or your recovery.
  • You will receive a patient satisfaction survey after discharge. Please complete the form and return it in the envelope provided.
  • You will not be permitted to drive your self-home if you received anesthesia. Please plan to have a responsible adult take you home after discharge. Someone should stay with you for 24 hours after your surgery. This is required for your safety.
